Each plan tier has its own maximum retention window: Free up to 7 days, Standard up to 30 days, Pro up to 90 days, Enterprise unlimited. Message and media retention can be configured independently - delete messages but keep files, or vice versa. Owners and Admins set retention within their plan's limits. Cleanup runs automatically in the background, removing expired messages and deleting corresponding media from storage.
